The Sibylle Assmus Foundation is offering two sponsorship awards for neuro-oncology for the first time in 2026, one in the field of basic research and one in the field of clinical research, as well as another sponsorship award for neuroregeneration and neuroplasticity.
The foundation has set itself the task of supporting various aspects of neuro-oncological and neuroregenerative research. The prize is primarily intended for younger scientists who have made outstanding contributions to the understanding of tumor pathology or neuroregeneration mechanisms and/or to new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in one of these two fields over the past three years, or who are working on relevant projects in the clinical field or in basic research. In addition to applications from basic research, those from clinical research and palliative medicine are also welcome.
Highly qualified applications may be submitted in German or English, and applicants should be employed at an academic research institution in Germany, Austria, or Switzerland.
The two Sibylle Assmus Research Awards for Neuro-Oncology and the Research Award for Neuroregeneration and Neuroplasticity are each endowed with €15,000.
Applications will be accepted from November 1, 2025. Applications should be formulated in accordance with DFG applications, but should not exceed 6 pages. In addition to a meaningful project description, the application should also contain information about project-relevant preliminary work, the start and expected duration of the project, and the planned use of funds. The prize money must be used for the project; i.e., it cannot be used to fund basic consumables that are not project-specific. For the Neuro-Oncology Award, please indicate whether your application relates to basic research or clinical research.
Applications must be submitted exclusively in electronic form by e-mail (preferably as a single PDF file, which should not exceed 5-6 MB) to the Foundation’s Executive Board by February 15, 2026, at the latest, and must include a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and a letter of recommendation from the chair or department head.
