…was founded in December 2002 in memory of Sibylle Assmus, who died 12 years earlier at the age of 21 years of leukemia. For a year, Sibylle continued her studies in jurisprudence, which she had begun with great enthusiasm, and hoped until then for healing through the aggressive and ultimately inhumane and futile treatment. The founder and chairman of the board, Dr. Hans Assmus, father of Sibylle, worked as a neurosurgeon and neurologist in Dossenheim/ Heidelberg. The foundation announces a grant award for neuro-oncology and another grant award for neuroregeneration and neuroplasticity. The annual funding awards serve to finance research projects and study visits. They are intended to support the work of younger scientists who have contributed to the understanding of fundamental pathomechanisms or to new diagnostic or therapeutic approaches through outstanding achievements in the past three years.

In addition to the support of experimental research in the field of neuro-oncology, which continues to be the main focus of the funding, clinical research and projects of palliative medicine are promoted.
